Sally’s Birthday
Sally’s Birthday! Rose and I were invited to a birthday celebration for Vicki’s mom, Sally. A lovely lady who is 80 years old! Thanks to Vicki and George for the invite!
Pacham
Pacham - Rose made this soup with shrimp, pasta, mushrooms and vegetables. She told me it was “Pacham”. I figured it was some Filipino dish, so I looked it up. Turns out it means “it accidentally turned out good”!
Common Garter Snake
I found this little guy on our front lawn the other day. I let him go in peace since I know he’ll eat all sorts of slugs, snails and pesky bugs.
Rose’s Surprise Birthday Party!
I want to thank you ladies for Rose’s surprise birthday party! 🥳 It meant so much to her to know she has such thoughtful friends!

Shore Patrol
Seagulls scavenge the beach at low tide, looking for whatever edible stuff they can find
Campground Sanitation Crew
Crows are residents of every campground we’ve stayed at. They are fun to watch and beneficial. Since they will consume anything remotely edible, they keep the place cleaned up!

Some of Our Neighbors
There’s some very interesting critters living here at the campground. But they’re kinda shy at first.
A Rare Sight on Coos Bay
Early this morning the wood chip carrier GT Persephone passed by our campsite

Sunset Bay State Park
We visited Sunset Bay State Park this afternoon. White sandy beach, gentle waves, people swimming, boating, fishing and tide pooling…and a nice campground nearby. Maybe a spot for a future trip?
More Oysters!
We went into Chucks again yesterday looking for 🦀 crabs, but still none, so we bought another 3 dozen oysters! 🦪 Happy tummy!

Charleston
Charleston, which seems to be part of Coos Bay, is just down the road from our campground. It’s a friendly, casual little area known for its seafood offerings. We had lunch at the Portside Restaurant, stopped by Chuck’s Seafood for some more fresh oysters and finally hit the Old General Store for a few sundry items.

Encounter with a Great White Egret
I took a walk on the beach this morning. The weather was great, and I came upon a Great White Egret. I had no time to get out my iphone so I just used my Ray Ban Metas, which I was using to listen to music. I had to enlarge and crop the video considerably.
Coos Bay Oysters
We stopped in Charleston at Chuck’s Seafood on the way back from Shore Acres and got a couple dozen oysters for dinner. Rose steamed them and may a lemon butter sauce, and I had my sriracha sauce.
Scenes for Relaxing
A few things that I observed that brought me a quiet satisfaction. So I thought I’d share.

Shore Acres State Park Botanical Garden
We spent the afternoon at Shore Acres State park Botanical Garden at Coos Bay Oregon. It was very interesting and beautifully kept!
Early Morning Walk
An early morning Walk along the beach at Bay Point Landing. The weather is foggy and cool, and the tide is rising, although not yet high, exposing seaweed. The calls of the seagulls and crows are pretty much the only sounds. Even though there are a lot of people around, the feeling is of a windswept solitude.

Morning Coffee
Going to get complimentary morning coffee at the Cove Lounge. Early mornings here at Bay Point Landing are usually cold and misty, with a sort of quiet, stark beauty.

Escape from the Heat!
We escape the oppressive heat of the Umpqua Valley to the coast of Coos Bay! The temperature differential is striking!
Glamping Dinner: First Night
Even in the camper, Rose cooks a beautiful dinner! Chicken Pastil served in the traditional Filipino way!
Lunch with the Kids
We were happy that we had a chance to see Erin, Andrew and our grandkids Crixus and Aubrey! Crixus will be 13 next month and Aubrey is 11. They seem so grown up since we last saw them!
Campsite Greeter
This little fellow was waiting to greet us at our campsite, and he didn't seem to be the least bit shy! He's a white-crowned sparrow, and I bet he's used to picking up crumbs around here.

My Dinner Tonight!
Rose made a new recipe for Chicken Pastil tonight. A little bit like adobo, but with a different sort of flavor...less vinegar, I think. Also a side of Dilis...or dried anchovies, a crunchy, salty slightly fishy snack.

If you have an iPhone with IOS 15 or above, it can identify plants and animals in pictures you take…pretty cool!

A Filipino-American 4th of July
This is a re-edit/re-post of our live videos from Denny & Wena’s fireworks party last night, this time with some copyright-free background music so I don’t get put in YouTube jail 🤣! I also took the opportunity to edit out the dead spaces of the live videos and combine Rose’s and my videos into one. Thanks to Denny & Wena for allowing us to burn down their home on an annual basis…it wouldn’t be a real 4th of July without it!

Yay! It’s My Birthday!
My name’s Ashley and I’m one year old! I was born on the 4th of July, so I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy!
What is a Shamrock?
This past Saint Patrick's Day we were out shopping--I can't remember where--when I saw these little potted plants advertised as "Real Irish Shamrocks!" Being proud of my Irish ancestry (which mostly involves Guinness Stout) I decided to buy one.
Today I noticed that its doing well! Its really filled out, and its blooming, so I took a picture of it. My iPhone told me it was Oxalis trilliifolia, a wildflower native to the Pacific Northwest, not Ireland! Must be some mistake!
After some more research I found out that apparently nobody knows for sure just what an Irish Shamrock actually is! A consensus is that it’s probably Suckling Clover (Trifolium dubium). Or maybe white clover. Who knew? Anyway, I'm still happy with this Oxalis, even if I don't know beans about the land of my ancestors!

They were Snapdragons!
What I thought were weeds in our roses containers bloomed one day. Turns out they are snapdragons! I have no idea how they got there, but now that I know what they are, we'll certainly take better care of them!
